On September 03, 2023, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC «KazMunayGas», together with Akim of Mangistau region Nurlan Nogaev, launched the construction of a desalination plant in Tokmak area of Mangistau region.

The project is being implemented in accordance with the instruction of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to provide drinking water to residents of the city of Zhanaozen.

Urken Bisakaev, CEO of the customer company «Ak Su KMG» LLP, informed the management about the main indicators of the project.

The construction of a desalination plant with a capacity of 50,000 m3 per day will fully meet the needs of the population of Zhanaozen in drinking water.

The construction of the plant is planned to be completed in December 2024, and by the spring of 2025 to reach its design capacity.

In August of this year, an EPC- contract was signed with a consortium led by the international company Metito LLC together with «SMK-Atameken» LLP, «Ak Zhol Kurylys» LLP and «Caspian HES Consulting» LLP.

Metito LLC is a global company in the market of services for the provision of solutions for water supply and wastewater management, founded in 1958. The company has more than 3,000 successfully implemented projects in water-scarce markets and is present in more than 50 countries around the world.

Oilfield service subsidiaries of JSC NC «KazMunayGas» — «Ken-Kurylys-Service» LLP, «Oil Construction Company» LLP, «Mangistauenergomunai» LLP and «KMG Engineering» LLP represented by the branch «Kaznipimunajgaz» were involved in the construction of the engineering infrastructure of the plants. It is planned to build a main water pipeline from the desalination plant to the city of Zhanaozen – 105 km, a high–voltage electric line – 80.1 km, a gas pipeline line – 39.7 km, a highway — 40 km and a fiber-optic line.

The construction of the facility is financed at the expense of own funds of JSC NC «KazMunayGas» group.
